Reigning seven-peat titlist San Beda overwhelmed a listless Emilio Aguinaldo, 107-60, on Monday, to remain undefeated and on top in the juniors division of the 92nd NCAA basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

Sam Abu Hijle spearheaded the onslaught with 17 points he spiked with 13 rebounds while Joshua Tagala had 14 points and 10 boards to help lift the Cubs to their third win in a row while keeping their stranglehold of the lead.

Germy Mahinay and Ry dela Rosa also wound up in double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively, to help in the cause.

“We just want to come out aggressive and finish strong,” said San Beda coach JB Sison, who is hoping to steer the Taytay-based school to a record eight straight crowns.

The Brigadiers fell to their third straight loss.

Joining San Beda at the helm was Mapua, which overwhelmed San Sebastian, 101-45, to snare a third straight triumph.

Jasper Selanga, Romuel Junsay and Bryan Samudyo each uncorked 15 points while Sherwin Concepcion and Charles Dagta chipped in 13 and 10, respectively, for the Robins.

Mapua is hoping to make up for last year’s painful experience when it finished No. 2 after the elims only to get ambushed by No. 3 Arellano U in the final stepladder semis to set up a title duel with eventual champion San Beda.

“Hopefully we’ll finish better this season,” said Mapua mentor Randy Alcantara.

The Staglets slid to the bottom with four straight defeats.
