Defending champion San Beda kept its unbeaten streak going as it trounced Perpetual Help, 95-63, yesterday to keep its grip of the lead in the NCAA Season 92 Juniors Basketball Division on Monday, at the FilOil Flying V Arena, San Juan.
Joshua Tagala shone the brightest and finished with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds on top of four steals, two assists and a block, helping push the Red Cubs to their fourth win in row.
It was also Tagala who came through in the second quarter, dropping nine points to turn a single-digit lead at the end of the opening quarter to a comfortable 51-34 advantage at halftime.
That was also all the Taytay-based dribblers needed to take the fight out of the Junior Altas, who fell to their third defeat against a lone triumph.
“It was a total team effort but he made some plays to get us going,” said San Beda coach JB Sison referring to Tagala, who at this early is somewhere on top or near it in the MVP statistical race.
Sam Abu Hijle, Prince Etrata and Carlo Obenza contributed 12, 10 and 10 points, respectively, to help in the cause.
Earlier, Jose Rizal edged San Sebastian College, 68-60, to snare its first win after three consecutive losses.
The Staglets fell to their fourth straight loss.
