University of Perpetual Help System-Dalta sustained its momentum and listed another win at the expense of listless College of Saint Benilde, 70-55, on Tuesday, in the NCAA Season 92 Men’s Basketball Division at the FilOil Flying V Arena, San Juan.
Nigerian behemoth Bright Akhuetie followed up his 21-point, 16-rebound and three-block game in a shock 61-55 win over the Knights last week by dropping 21 points, 9 boards and 4 blocks as the Altas secured their second win in a row, and fourth overall in six outings.
The Las Pinas-based squad also drew strong support from Akhuetie’s front-court partner and fellow Nigerian Prince Eze, who chipped in 10 points, 8 caroms and 2 blocks.
It was business as usual for the Bright Akhuetie-led Altas as they opened the first canto with as much as 11 points to pin Benilde heading to the succeeding quarter.
However, it did not help that the Altas committed a few untimely turnovers which opened the opportunity for Benilde to initiate their movement.
The Taft-based Blazers tried to recover behind the heroics of Alfonso Saavedra and JJ Domingo, but to no avail as Perpetual widened the gap to as much as 21 points halfway through the finishing kick.
Despite the win, Perpetual Help mentor Jimwell Gican still has something to correct in the team’s plays.
“Naging inconsistent kami. Pero buti na lang talaga, meron kaming magagaling na imports”, commended Gican of the Akhuetie-Eze duo.
Team Captain Gabriel Dagangon also exploded his share of 16 points for the Perpetual Help Altas.
Meanwhile, College of Saint Benilde remained winless despite Saavedra’s 15 markers and JJ Domingo’s 9 hits.
