Perpetual Help shackled reigning MVP Allwell Oraeme and the rest of Mapua to hammer out a 71-51 rout on Thursday and seize solo second place in the NCAA Season 92 Men’s Basketball Division, at the FilOil Flying V Arena, San Juan.
The Altas were unforgiving in defense as they held the Cardinals to just eight first quarter points, and 10 in the second and never really looked back the rest of the way to seal their fifth straight win and seventh overall, which was good for solo second spot.
San Beda continues to lead the way with a perfect 7-0 (win-loss) record.
Led by Nigerian Bright Akhuetie, Perpetual Help held Oraeme to his season-low six points after coming into the game averaging 17 points.
“We knew for us to beat Mapua, we need to really be aggressive on defense and we did that in this game”, said Perpetual Help coach Jimwell Gican.
Gab Dagangon paced the Las Pinas-based dribblers with 20 points, while Akhuetie recorded his fifth double-double effort with 11 points and 12 rebounds while presiding over the defense that slowed down Oraeme.
The Cardinals fell to their 5-3 win-loss slate.
