Arellano University went to Jiovani Jalalon as the Chiefs fended off San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 89-84, to stay at the second seed in the NCAA Season 92 Men’s Basketball Division on Tuesday, at the FilOil Flying V Arena, San Juan.
The Chiefs’ opening win in the Second Round of Eliminations paved the way for them to secure the second seed of the ongoing team standings with an 8-2 win-loss slate.
Jalalon fired 33 points, his season-high, while Kent Salado scattered 11 markers for Coach Jerry Codiniera’s wards.
The Gilas Pilipinas Cadet had an injury scare late in the third period, when he banged his head on the floor after a bad fall.
However, nothing and no one will ever stop the Cagayan de Oro guard to return midway through the fourth period to backup the Chiefs in upsetting the Golden Stags.
On the other hand, Ryan Costelo paced San Sebastian with 24 points, yet to no avail as the Stags absorbed their ninth loss in ten games.
Tondo native RK Ilagan added 14 points, while Allyn Bulanadi chipped in 12 points for San Sebastian College, which played without mentor Egay Macaraya.
